Creepy Cool Family Resemblance

How strong is your family resemblance? I would say I am a mixture of both of my parents equally, and I really don't look too similar to any of my four siblings. People have always said we look related, but the resemblance isn't shocking or incredibly noticeable in my family as with others. One of my good friends,Carter, and her two brothers, Rustin and Jackson, could be triplets there resemblance is so strong.

Photographer Ulric Collette has created a series of portraits called Genetic Portraits. He takes two family members faces, whether they have a strong resemblance or not, and puts them together making them into one portrait. Below are a few of my favorites, see more here .

Picnic for Two

Max and I love picnics, so he recently surprised me with the cutest picnic basket and accessories, as seen in Matchbook Magazine issue 5, my favorite! But, the past couple of weekends have been so rainy that we have been staying in playing Scrabble (another favorite activity) instead of picnicking, but hopefully the sun will shine on us soon. Until then I am inspired by these wonderfully romantic picnic photos, it doesn't get much better than this.

Clipper Mill

Baltimore's Clipper Mill is located in the neighborhood of Woodberry which lies along the Jones Falls river. The Jones Falls provided water power for the mills in the Baltimore area, including The Clipper Mill Industrial Park which was originally established in the 1850's. Today the multiple mill buildings and surrounding area has been renovated into magnificent offices, apartments, restaurants and even a lovely community pool. The Tractor Building, pictured below, was built later than most of the surrounding buildings in 1916. The building was used for the manufacturing of large machines. This is one of the few parts of Clipper Mill that has yet to be renovated but, will become more offices and apartments in the future. For now it shows what once was and the beauty in it's abandon.

Baltimore Free Farm

Lauren and I went to the Baltimore Free Farm the other day in Woodberry. It is a relatively new project, beginning in January of 2010, which aims to promote urban green spaces, sustainable living and local agriculture. From the street it didn't seem like much, but through our climb up we realized what a wonderful and full garden it is, both in the quantity and variety of crops it hosts. I recommend a visit to anyone living in the Baltimore area so you can see what urban green spaces are all about. And for those who live in the Hampden/Woodberry neighborhoods in particular, join in and volunteer -- you'll enjoy the fresh local veggies!

Block Island Sunset

Spent another weekend on Block Island where I saw the most wonderful sunset on Friday night and was snapping pictures the whole way through. I hope everyone had a fabulous Fourth of July weekend - the best weekend of the year in my opinion!

Missing Abroad

Ever since leaving Copenhagen a little over a year ago I've had the never ending feeling that I missed something. Missed a museum that I would have loved, a sandwich shop with amazing Smørrebrød, a bar with the trendiest black-clad Danes. I think most of my life has been filled with "what-ifs" and regrets of opportunities missed - a feeling that makes my stomach turn over itself. But, I need to move past this. So instead of sitting googling things in Denmark I should have done, I am going to focus on my favorite parts of going abroad, the things that make me so homesick for wonderful wonderful Copenhagen.
